The Complete Illustrated Guide to Furniture and Cabinet Construction

The Complete Illustrated Guide to Furniture and Cabinet Construction

>>> BlackFriday The Complete Illustrated Guide to Furniture and Cabinet Construction

Through my work as a public librarian I recently ordered this book and subsequently had the opportunity to be the first at my library to read it! I am very impressed with the sheer scope of the work. Having long been a fan of the Taunton Press I expected this work to be very good quality and I was not disappointed. I agree with most of the favorable comments made by other reviewers but I have to disagree with the claim made by another that this book is disjointed. I found it to be very readable and informative.

Joint Book

Joint Book

>>> BlackFriday Joint Book

This book is one of the better examples of well laid out books on woodworking. It covers a lot of information - From tools that you might need(If you don't already have them) to great tips on fitting the joints. I like the spiral binding as it will lay flat on the bench top. It is a great help to me as I don't do a lot of woodworking. It isn't due to lack of time but the lack of funds for the wood products. So if you need a refresher on joints this book is just the ticket.

A Cabinetmaker's Notebook (Woodworker's Library)

>>> BlackFriday A Cabinetmaker's Notebook (Woodworker's Library)

A Cabinet Maker's Notebook! It is the book that shook me awake to the possibility that woodworking can be a means of clear expression and personal growth. My own copy is not from this edition but was printed in 1976. It was given me by friends that knew my interest in woodworking and wanted to make sure that I got off to the right start.

Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings

Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings

>>> BlackFriday Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings

I have recently taken an interest in woodworking. Being someone who like to learn about the theories before actually doing anything I started buying and reading a number of woodworking books and doing some experimenting and practicing with the information I learned.

Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

>>> BlackFriday Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

Technical Details

  • Base and frog cast as one for accuracy
  • Patented lateral adjustment locking feature
  • Cherry wood handle and knob for comfort with solid brass adjustments for smooth operation
  • Iron casting for weight and durability
  • Mouth adjustment for different types of wood

On a scale of 1 to 10 l would rank the quality of this plane as a 7. The blade cap holder in my opinion is a bit flimsy not solid and heavy compared to the veritas cap holder and the black paint started to wear off after one week. In regards to other aspects of this plane: 1/ The plane is reasonably heavey for its size much heavier than the veritas No4 plane. 2/ The blade was extremely sharpready to use. 3/ The rear handle is comfortable and generous in size.It will accommodate a person with a large hand. 4/ I personnally found the front knob to be a little to high for my comfort level. 5/ The mouth opening ajustment operates smoothly and is machined very accurate. 6/ The norris style blade ajustment works well however l felt that it had a fration more back lash when compared to the veritas No4 plane. 7/ The frog machining is very good. 8/ Over all considering the cheap price I stand by my ranking 7/10.
