I have recently taken an interest in woodworking. Being someone who like to learn about the theories before actually doing anything I started buying and reading a number of woodworking books and doing some experimenting and practicing with the information I learned.

Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

>>> BlackFriday Stanley 12-136 Bailey No.4 Smoothing Bench Plane

Technical Details

  • Base and frog cast as one for accuracy
  • Patented lateral adjustment locking feature
  • Cherry wood handle and knob for comfort with solid brass adjustments for smooth operation
  • Iron casting for weight and durability
  • Mouth adjustment for different types of wood

On a scale of 1 to 10 l would rank the quality of this plane as a 7. The blade cap holder in my opinion is a bit flimsy not solid and heavy compared to the veritas cap holder and the black paint started to wear off after one week. In regards to other aspects of this plane: 1/ The plane is reasonably heavey for its size much heavier than the veritas No4 plane. 2/ The blade was extremely sharpready to use. 3/ The rear handle is comfortable and generous in size.It will accommodate a person with a large hand. 4/ I personnally found the front knob to be a little to high for my comfort level. 5/ The mouth opening ajustment operates smoothly and is machined very accurate. 6/ The norris style blade ajustment works well however l felt that it had a fration more back lash when compared to the veritas No4 plane. 7/ The frog machining is very good. 8/ Over all considering the cheap price I stand by my ranking 7/10.
